Another year of 2024 has passed by, and March 2024, the Holi month, has contributed some very good films that, including an underwhelming film like Laapataa Ladies, which was loved but did not perform at the box office. On the other hand, there was Ajay Devgn’s Shaitaan, which was not expected to perform outrageously, but it did!

In the year 2024, 8 films were released in March that cumulatively collected 259.82 crore at the box office. There were seven Hindi releases and one Hollywood release, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which has already collected 25.50 crore at the box office. To date, these seven Hindi and one Hollywood release have contributed 2 flops and 1 hit.

The month started with Laapata Ladies and was followed by the supernatural horror film Shaitaan. The following week saw a clash between the aerial action film Yodha and the political drama Bastar: A Naxal Story. Next week saw a clash between Swatantrya Veer Savarkar and Madgaon Express, followed by a Holly-Bolly clash in the last week with Crew and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

17% Drop From Last Year

The total 259.82 crore cumulatively collected in the month of March is a drop of 17% from last year’s earnings, which registered a total of 314.09 crore with 6 releases. This also released a Hollywood release, John Wick: Chapter 4, that collected 53.50 crore at the box office.

Best Performing Holi Month In The Last 10 Years

The best performing month in the last 10 years has been the year 2022, when SS Rajamouli’s RRR created an uproar. The year saw 3 flops, one blockbuster, one hit, and one plus-tag film. The best-earning film of the month was, of course, SS Rajamouli‘s RRR, which earned 277 crore and was a hit at the box office. In total, the month earned 664.35 crore from six releases. 

13 Hits Since 2014

Since 2014, in the last 10 years, there have been 13 hits in the Holi month. These hits include films like Shaitaan, RRR, and Raid, as well as blockbusters like The Kashmir Files. The year with the maximum hits was 2019, with hits Kesari and Captain Marvel and super hits Badla and Luka Chuppi.

Best Performing Film

The best-performing movie of March 2024 was Ajay Devgn’s Shaitaan, which collected 139.02 crore at the box office. The best-performing film of March 2023 was Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, which registered a lifetime collection of 146 crore. Ajay Devgn’s horror flick might touch this number or come too close to it soon! 

The Exception Year

2020 was the year when lockdown was announced during the pandemic, and only 2 films were released before the lockdown. These were Baaghi 3 that collected 97.32 crore losing at the box office. The other release was Angrezi Medium, which collected 10.48 crore and tanked at the box office.
